Code of ethics
- Behave in a professional manner as befits all activities of a sleep professional,
irrespective of whether a true clinician-patient relationship exists. - Maintain the highest standards of practice and perform all professional functions
with honesty and integrity. - Handle and transmit laboratory results in an accurate, direct and precise manner
and strive for objectivity in evaluating methods and practices. - Maintain scientific standards and appropriate application of science in the review
process and refrain from any misrepresentation of the laboratory evidence or the
scientific or technical basis of research findings. - Promote empirically-supported approaches to assessment and treatment above
approaches that are not supported by empirical data; when recommendations
are made counter to or in the absence of empirical data, this should be noted. - Demonstrate a commitment to the development and
maintenance of professional competence and personal scientific knowledge. - Refrain from misuse of private information as may come to light. Confidentiality
is to be protected in so far as possible in all cases.
Mission
The objective of the Pennsylvania Sleep Society is to promote excellence in the areas of sleep research, sleep education and clinical practice.
By promoting the highest standards in these areas, the Society will also serve to represent the Pennsylvania sleep community in the advocacy of state and federal public policy issues potentially impacting the profession.
Furthermore, the Society will serve as a network for sleep professionals by encouraging communication between all practitioners, researchers and educators involved in the science and clinical practice of sleep medicine, in addition to maintaining valuable relationships with other allied health professionals and organizations.
